Perth's Best Specialty Coffee: Subiaco, Northbridge and Hidden Laneway Cafes

Beyond the established Leederville and Mount Hawthorn specialty corridor, Perth has a rich second tier of outstanding cafes concentrated in Subiaco, Northbridge and the CBD lane network that reward exploration. Subiaco on Rokeby Road has several well-regarded independently operated cafes that serve the affluent western suburbs community, with some of Perth's most consistent and technically precise espresso programs found in the strip between Hay Street and Roberts Road. Northbridge's cafe culture is woven into the precinct's broader arts and entertainment identity, with venues on William Street and Beaufort Street that operate as morning cafes before transitioning to evening service. The Perth CBD has a concentration of specialty espresso bars in the arcades and lanes between St Georges Terrace and Murray Street Mall. Fremantle's cafe scene on South Terrace, Cappuccino Strip, has long been Perth's most famous outdoor cafe culture and while it skews more traditional espresso, several specialty operators have established strong positions. The South Perth foreshore, accessible by ferry from Elizabeth Quay, has cafe operations with outstanding Swan River and CBD skyline views. Shenton Park and the Nedlands strip on Broadway are less well-known but have quality independent cafe operations serving the university and hospital professional community.
